Dear Chairman Kanuha and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate the following individuals to the Kailua Village Design
Commission:
Ann Kern - Ms. Kern is a 17 -year resident of Hawaii. She is a Uiversity of Hawaii lecturer,
and a member of the Kona Historical Society. Ms. Kern has previously served as a member
of this commission. If confirmed, she will replace Sammie Stanbro for the remainder of a
3 -year to end on December 31, 2015, and be eligible for an additional 3 -year term to end on
December 31, 2018.
Shaun Roth - Mr. Roth is a 14 -year resident of Hawaii. He is a self - employed architect with
Roth Kimura LLP. Mr. Roth is currently a member of AIA Honolulu, and the former president
of the local AIA chapter. He is an organizing volunteer with Holualoa Elementary School
Robotics Club and formerly served as a board member of the Holualoa Fondation for Arts
and Cuilture. If confirmed, Mr. Roth will replace John Hetherington for the remainder of a
3 -year term to end on December 31, 2016.

RE: Nomination of Ann Kern and Shaun Roth to the Kailua Village Design Commission.
Pursuant to Section 2(g) of Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of the Council of the County of
Hawaii, this written request is submitted with my approval that the above - referenced matter be
waived from the Committee on Planning to the full Council for immediate action. In reviewing
this matter, timely approval is crucial. It is therefore advantageous that approval is granted and
the matter be placed onto the next Council agenda for review. However, in the event this request
is denied, for whatever reason, I understand the matter shall be referred to the Committee on
Planning for placement on its future agenda.
