Aloha Council,
I strongly oppose Bill 302. As a Registered Nurse I see a lot of things. Some good, some bad. In this case
it is good. I see electronic cigarettes helping people daily. My Significant other switched over a year ago
and has lowered his nicotine intake severely since then. In my eyes this bill will do the opposite of what
it is intended for. Calling an e -cigarette a cigarette is plain wrong. People that are switching are
noticeably healthier. This law as written WILL frighten people, and very possibly, stop them from trying
e -cigarettes, a proven step in harm reduction. In that case this bill will be harmful to public health. A
recent study shows that when smokers see others using a-cigs in public, they are 99% more likely to try
it themselves. While e-cigs aren't taking away the nicotine addiction, they are taking away the cocktail of
chemicals used in cigarettes, not to mention the combustion. Furthermore there have yet to be
reputable studies concluding that secondhand vapor is harmful at all. On the contrary, every recent
study points to the fact that there is nothing harmful in secondhand vapor. It is for these reasons I
strongly oppose this bill. I am no expert, but this seems like the wrong thing to do at this time. I only see
fear and not facts about this subject at this time and ask you to do the right thing and vote NOH
Sincerely,
Jacquilynn Wright RN
