Hearing for Bill 318 — OPPOSE — February 17, 2015
I am here today in opposition of Bill 318 because I'm not sure what it is. I'm not sure if the County
even has the jurisdiction to impose this ordinance. And I'm not sure who's going to enforce it. What I
am sure of is, science takes a back seat to emotions and personal agendas.
However, my biggest concern is, usually when a member of public approaches this County Council
with an issue, that is a State issue, the Council cannot ram it down your throat fast enough that they
cannot help with State matters, as in the case of disappearing acceleration lanes in Kona, even
though some of the roads leading up to these intersections are County. If the removal of
acceleration lanes in our community is not a County concern, that should be on an agenda, why the
heck should this one be? I don't believe anyone will suffer injuries from the aquarium fish industry.
Disappearing acceleration lanes, not so much! Removing the acceleration lanes in Kona, have made
the safety situation between bicycles and cars, and cars and cars, worse.
Coming back to my initial thought. People that have a need to govern your life, should not have
personal agendas and you know who I am talking about. Please do not pass Bill 318,
