My message to the Committee: Aloha Chair Wille and AWES Committee Members,
First, I wish to express my appreciation to Chair Wille for bringing
.matters relating to the aquarium trade before the County Council.
'Phis is an important issue, and if not addressed, our reef health will
continue to be at risk.
As a I Iawaii County Resident and a person active in the klonokohau
Harbor community, I speak to lend my support to Bill 318 protecting
I Iawaii's reef wildlife from harmful aquarium trade practices that
render their collevtion in the first instance a waste of life in that
many do not survive transport.
I understand that the counter -argument is that everything on the reef
isjuSt fine, and that DLNR is doing a greatjob, nothing to worry
about, the County need not take any action. This is simply not true.
Action is needed, and I urge that this bill be passed.
Respectfully,
Victoria L. Kalman, Esq.
Mahalo 1'or the opportunity!
