Dear Council Member Daniel Paleka , =
I am writing to you to let you know that as a small organic farmer here in Hawaiian `
Acres, I am very concerned with large mainland companies coming to our Island and
experimenting with GMO crops that are designed/created to withstand large amounts of
pesticides and herbicides and not die .... what about my crops and my family. We are not
GMO'd to protect us from these harmful killing agents. I am concerned that US Magistrate
Judge Barry Kurren has overturned our hard fought for, and citizen supported Hawai'i
Island GMO ban (ordinance 13-121), taking sides with these large corporations who have
no family ties to this island and seek only profit and not protection of our Aina and local
people.
Please support our local farmers, families and Aina and appeal this decision. This is an
Island Nation and we must be extra careful about what we introduce here, and these GMO
crops have not had enough testing to determine if they are compatible with life as we
know it ... remember how these same corporate entities described DDT as perfectly safe
(children even used to play in the spray from the trucks applying DDT, because it was
safe')... Children, wildlife and our Aina suffer more and have less protection then these
Big Companies who poison our Island, take their -profits back to the mainland and leave
our children and their children with the toxic waste cleanup.
