Subject: GMO Ban Appeal Testimoney
Aloha,
My name is Kyle Studer I own a ten acre vegetable and fruit farm in Paauilo. I make my full living at my farm
and have done so for the last 4 years. I am writing this to urge you all to appeal Judge Konen's ruling
invalidating our GMO ban. Other counties in America have bans on the cultivation of GMOs why should we
not be allowed.
Should his ruling stand I believe that it has larger implications than just the GMO ban. It would set a precedent
that the people of Hawaii county do not have the right to decide what kind of agriculture we want on our lands,
that we do not have the right to pass laws to protect our health and environment. The people of this island alone
will have to live with the consequences of our actions not ajudge in Honolulu.
I mentioned earlier that I was a full time farmer to give you a sense of where my opinions on the matter of
GMOs come from. Myself and thousands of other farmers in America make our livings without the use of
genetic modification. Anyone who tells you that we need GMOs to grow food to feed the world must be
unaware of the millions of people across the world growing non GM crops successfully and the last ten
thousand years of agricultural history. While GMOs may seem like easy solutions to our (farmers) problems we
are only beginning to see the long term problems these crops and the toxic farming system they support are
creating for human health and the health of the environment.
Please protect our aina and our future, appeal Judge Kurren's ruling!
Thank You for Your Service,
Kyle Studer
