It has replaced the sugarcane plantations with a agricultural technology that is even more dangerous to the people in Hawaii. This struggle is not between farmers and elitist liberals. It is a struggle between chemical corporations and our ability to feed ourselves in Hawaii. My background is as an architect and planner (HI AR 10138). My priorities now is growing as much organic food as possible with the people in my neighborhood on the two acres around me. There is soon coming a day when we will not be able to count overseas containers of industrially scaled shipments of vegetables coming from an and Central Valley in California. So about the highest priority we face is need to be able to feed ourselves here in Hawaii. These corporations (Monsanto, Dow, Dupont, BASF, Syngenta) who pose as farmers, are in fact are in the process of destroying traditional small farming throughout the world. Not even counting the problems that issue from the experimental applications of pesticide cocktails on our small islands the tragedy is that the end products of this technology - particularly high -fructose -corn -syrup in so much of our industrialized food products - are playing a major role in the obesity of Americans. Obesity, especially here in Hawaii, is leading to heart disease, diabetes and a number of other health threats that begins with our children. We here on Kauai urge you to support the appeal of Judge Kurren's decision to overturn your legislation Gomm: No: 21.237 Ref. To:_7777—Lj Ref. Dare DEC 1 77p14
