Dear Council,
Since their inception, we have studied the dynamics of genetically engineered/modified orgaJyms
and their effects on the environment, and have definitively concluded that their ban is very positive for
Hawaii and rescinding the ban will be very bad for Hawaii. The fertile environment and multiple seed -
cycles sought by the producers will lead to an even more concentrated negative effect on the
island(s) than on the continents. We were very relieved when the council voted for the ban, and with
this recent ruling by the State, we are both dismayed and angered, viewing it as a direct affront to our
ability to keep ourselves safe. Our mission on the island is to ensure secure/safe food, water, and
energy, in particular uncorrupted by genetic engineering and its many consequences. With the ban in
place, the ocean will safeguard us. Without the ban, we will suffer consequences more quickly than
the rest of the world. Having a safe stronghold against a global scourge and corrupted food supply
will prove to be the most valuable asset, in which we can invest. We cannot let anyone else dictate
our fate to be one of accelerated/concentrated introduction of genetic material that cannot be
removed or undone. This is our home and we have the right and duty to keep it safe and
uncorrupted.
Thank you and please appeal the judges ruling, fighting with the island to keep it a healthy sanctuary
against a global scourge (the island will benefit greatly from this in the future, as our products will be
prized around the world).
