Subject: SUPPORT Acceptance of Earthjustice & CFS's Help on Appeal of GMO Ban
Aloha Hawaii County Council Members,
I strongly support acceptance of the Earthjustice & Center for Food Safety's very generous offer to help our
county with our appeal of the GMO ban. *(Comm.9.1.).
I strongly urge you to represent your constituents by supporting this. We need to win our appeal of the
judge's ruling invalidating our GMO bill.
• The people voted in favor of the GMO ban.
• Mayor Kenoi approved it.
• We have to stop GMO's on our island as it puts our community's health, safety and future at great risk
and is a blow for democracy.
• We need home rule on this and so many other issues facing our island.
• In addition, consider the much needed cost savings to the county by accepting this offer.
I have been shocked and disappointed by the recent positions of our Puna representatives ( Ilagan and Paleka)
regarding GMOs and geothermal issues facing our community. Now is the opportunity to change and win
back the support of your constituents by accurately representing them. No GMOs! No geothermal in
residential areas. As a long term resident of Puna and a mother, these are two of my biggest concerns for our
keiki and aina.
These are critical decisions that will affect us for generations to come. Please do the right thing. Protect our
land and people.
