Aloha Chairman Kanuha:
My name is Chris English, and I am a Hawaii island rancher and currently serve as the president
of the Hawaii Cattlemen's Council. The Hawaii Cattlemen's Council, Inc. (HCC) is the
Statewide umbrella organization comprised of the five county level Cattlemen's Associations.
Our 1301- member ranchers represent over 60,000 head of beef cows; more than 75% of all the
beef cows in the State. Ranchers are the stewards of approximately 25% of the State's total land
mass.
"fhe I Iawaii Cattlemen's Council is strongly opposed to any legal counsel provided to the County
off Iawaii by Earthjustice or the Center for hood Safety. Both of these organizations are activist
groups with specific missions. It is clearly inappropriate for any organization such as these to
provide legal counsel or representation to any type of government entity.
