Bill 318 should not pass. Bill 318 should not pass because the 1 gallon of water rule and
24 hour shipping requirement will be harmful to fish in transit. These two rules are not
supported by science and research. It is obvious that the 1 gallon of water rule was
created to impose higher shipping rates on aquarium fish wholesalers and make shipping
fish unprofitable. Aquarium fish are shipped with the right amount of water and air for
the fish to survive transport. Bill 318 does not allow fish to purge their gut before
shipping. Fish that don't purge their gut before shipping will put ammonia in the
shipping water. The ammonia will damage the fish's gills and fins and kill the fish in the
bag because the oxygen levels in the water will be depleted quickly. Bill 318 and Bill 24
should not pass.
