We aze a non-profit corporation which consist of 30 Veterans Organizations that represent the broad spectnun of vicar Nakamura our Hawaii County Community. We have a 501 (c)(3) Tax Exempt non-profit status with '°°`~'s''°r~ Internal Revenue Service. For the past fifty (50) yeazs the Veterans of Hawaii County have Visor ca,nn sadaia,i Rubaa been waiting and wanting for such a Facility. We are now asking for your support to help us ~ Ma md' build our own Facility, which will serve all Veterans Organization, Veterans, Veterans Families, Nau~ a~ang their needs and requirements. The Veterans Affairs Administrative Office will provide Counseling, and Re- Robot MatMPye Adjustment Assistance, the Community Based Out-Patiem Clinic (CBOC) will provide Medical Lauu Kaonvi Treatment, Referrals to outside Doctors, Lab. Assistance, and Prescription Drugs, the State Roy Hu~okawa Office of Veterans Services will coordinate all Veterans Services through this location. Other Activities would include State of Hawaii Job Orientation for Rabin Dodtm Veterans Veterans Affairs Volunteer Training and Education Program, and Coordinated Job R .~,>ms as c~~ma Training for Student Nurses with the University of Hawaii, serve as a Disaster Shelter for the County of Hawaii Civil Defense, provide a Veterans Museum for War-Time Artifacts and memorable items of imerest, and develop a Scholarship Program for the descendant or sibling of a Veteran who is a member of any one of the (30) thirty Veteran Organizations of the Hawaii Island Veterans Memorial Inc. This CVC will be the first of its kind in the State of Hawaii. The latest Veterans Administration Veterans Population figures for the County of Hawaii was 14,440 as of July 1993. There are 11,190 War-Time, and 3,250 Peace-Time Veterans., of this, there aze 13,860 Male Veterans and 580 Female Veterans. With the increased h,med Forces Military Veterans Populatio.. of Hawaii County there as a serious need for a permanent centralized facility that will accommodate all Veterans requirements. At the present, Veterans do not have a permanent location for the CBOC, Medical Treatment, Out-Patient Referral, and Counseling and Re-Adjustment, there is no Facility that provides for Recreation or Alternate Housing, in addition we also have Homeless Veterans that need our help and assistance. Mayor Steven Yamashiro has agreed to exchange 5 acres of Hawaii County Land near a High School in Kona, for the 5.23 acres of State Land that we are requesting. He will then lease the land to the Hawati Island Veterans Memorial Inc. on a long term Lease. Inc(. 1 shows the Plot Plan 5.23 acres. Incl.. 2 is a recent photo since the land was cleared. Incl.. 3 shows the floor plan, and Incl.. 4 is the proposed Construction Budget. We need your help to obtain State funding for our Project, please support and vote for our Grant Request under provision of Hawaii Revised Statutes, Chapter 42-F, Grants and Subsidies, submitted to the State Legislature, Ways and Means Committee, and vote for SB 3217 and HR 3463, which will support Chapter 42F, providing funds to constnrct the Combined Veterans Center, ini~ilo, HI.. The Hawau Island Veterans Memorial Inc., was formed by the 30 Veterans Organizations to Plan, Build, and Operate a Combined Veterans Center and 50 Unit Veterans Home, this project is to be accomplished in 3 phases, the first phase will consist of the Veterans Center, Counseling and Re-adjustment and CBOC. The 2nd phase will consist of a Garage, Multi- Putpose Volleyball, Tennis, Basketball Courts, Gateball Courts for Seniors, and a Picnic Recreation area. The 3rd phase witl consist of a 50 Unit Veterans Home and Cafeteria. in closing, we humbly ask for your Support, and Assistance for this very meaningful and important project to Hawaii Island Veterans.
