(808) 969-3291 Dear Council Chair Tyler and Committee Members Ju.i~ Jacobson, Aaron Chung, Leningrad Elarionoff, Bobby Jean Leithead-Todd, Nancy Pisicci:i 91 Smith, Dominic Yagong, and Jamas Arakaki, On behalf of the East Hawaii Coalition for the t'omci (EHCH) clients, Board of Directors, and Staff, we extend our heartfelt thank you for the opporinnity to share additional information on o.:r Human Services grants, at the Special Meeting ycsi~r-,~,;. We would also like 4o further inform you that tha a3 ,~"0 ~,warcied last year assisted the EFiC;-i in. securing staffing such as the Case Manager(s) for `h ~ =rnergency Shelter. Due to our prolectec increase in serving homeless families with childron = individuals for both the Emergency z?nd Transitional Shelter programs, we have included th ~;:penses into our grant applications. cc.r the Emergency Shelter program, we are projecting ~ arde 500 homeless clients in the `scat y~;~r 1999-2000. The EHCH is requestinn the necessar,- >i>~,000 4o supplement the total program cc;;:. _ For the Transitional project, we anticpate serving ~~>.r~~ilies with children and/or individuals, and need assistance in paying the occupancy rent and utilities expanses of $11,500. Note that pie amount requested for both projects are amounts th-'. i''.° Stzte and private foundations h,we placed restricted funding amounts. The difference'~~~[: ~n the two projects is that the Transitic ~.^,1 Project is assisting clients to further become ssif-alb;i!ci>nt end economically independent by requiring goals of securing employment, seeking hi^ r~r =d;dcation and vocational traininn, am eventually transitioning off of public welfare bene,ir. The EHCH sincerely appreciates the County Courcii':, ;ontinued support in serving the hom~!~ss families with children and individuals on the Big Isla n~'. 1'uur support has contributed to the 75°/. success rate of homeless cli®nts meeting their `1eu,i,:~: ?nd human services goals and breaking the cycle of homelessness.
