Your Committee on Public Safety and Mass Transit, to which was Communication No. 156, reports as follows:
Communication 156, transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi dated February 18, 2015, requests review and favorable
recommendation of the nomination of Ms. Shelby Nahale-a to the Hawaii County Liquor Commission.
If confirmed, Ms. Nahale-a will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2019. Ms. Nahale-a replaces Greg Gauthier,
whose term expired effective December 31, 2014.
Ms. Charmaine Shigemura, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kenoi, came forward and provided background information
on Nominee Nahale-a, expressed the Mayor's support, and requested Council's favorable action of this appointment.
Several Council Members expressed support of Ms. Nahale-a's appointment to the commission.
Committee Chair Paleka informed Ms. Nahale-a that she did not need to appear before the full Council for
confirmation.
Pursuant to Section 7-3.2, Hawaii County Charter, there is established a Liquor Commission consisting of nine
members, appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council.
Your committee on Public Safety and Mass Transit is in accord with the purpose and intent of
Communication No. 156, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Ms. Shelby K. Nahale-a
to the Hawaii County Liquor Commission.
