Regarding appointment of Warren Chong to Board c~f~t~l}ics:
d~: 9 21
Mayor Yamasluro is appointing to this important boa~•~,,yet another growth
advocate with development ties stronger than a steel beam. I;fc~i,persorl or as`s{ie
comes before this commission regarding a developer or development interests, will
Warren Chong have to disqualify himself from judgment? This is a large question.
So many people in our county administration and legislative branch have these ties
that perhaps Mr. Chong would be unable to make a judgment in many crucial
cases.
Once again, I ask the same question of our mayor and council: isn't there a
different pool to choose from than those whose main interests lie in the pumped up
development of our island? fire we not assui°ed by democratic govermment that
vai-ied interests will be met to set-ve us and our needs -even in the appointment of
committees like the Ethics Soard? Isn't it possible for Mr. Chong to do work for his
community without being given a government appointment?
I do not feel not represented by any of the people chosen by the mayor to
make the important decisions which affect my life. In deliberating Mr. Chong's
appointment to this board, I ask that my council representatives search within
themselves for the salve stamped "Integrity -please use liberally on affected area."
Please vote against Mr. Chong's appointment.
Mahalo for your consideration in this matter.
Sincerely, `7v7viir e f~ralwira
