RESOLUTION NO. 15G 15
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE WAIKOLOA DRY
FOREST INITIATIVE FOR A DRY FOREST EDUCATION AND OUTREACH
PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the Waikoloa Dry Forest Initiative (WDFI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
organization that provides an outreach and education program to raise awareness about the native
Hawaiian dry forest ecosystem and promotes the Hawaiian culture and volunteerism; and
WHEREAS, the WDFI will be providing a Dry Forest Education and Outreach Program
to the community, which will include educating the public on dry forests, volunteer coordination,
improvement to outreach and educational materials, and enhancing the Waikoloa visitor
gathering and picnic area; and
WHEREAS, the WDFI will attend a minimum of 12 public events with the goal of
educating a minimum of 3,000 people with off-site educational booths, displays, and talks; and
WHEREAS, the WDFI will increase the number of groups that visit the Waikoloa site
and increase volunteer days; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to
the Department of Research and Development to provide a grant to the Waikoloa Dry Forest
Initiative for the Dry Forest Education and Outreach Program; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and the Director of Finance, and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
