My name is Bertha Basabe and I OPPOSE Bill 318.1
We are the most regulated inshore fishery in Hawaii. The intent of Bill
24 is duplication of existing rules and regulations already setup and in
place by the State.
I have been a collector since 1989, and have lived in Hawaii since 1978.
I have been thinking lately about the ugly and slanderous dialog
directed at our industry on the Internet, in the newspapers and
testimony. We have been quiet and non confrontational in the past.
Maybe instead of keeping quiet we should have been more proactive
and done more education about our sustainable industry.
I have a suggestion: the county funds that would be needed for this Bill
would be better directed opening all the waste transfer stations on this
island seven days a week.
