Council Testimony
Subject:
Bill 24 OPPOSITION
This bill is appalling. How can charging an enormous amount of money to members of a legal industry
"protect health, welfare and safety" of the people of Hawaii County? And what would happen to the
money? As far as I can find out, no other permit required by this county (or any other in the state) charges so
much and clearly the county will not be using the money to benefit the resource.
Is this just a tax grab? No, it's another sorry attempt to drive people and their families out of business, the
very people whose welfare and safety you should be looking out for. I've heard that the council members
supporting both these bill seem to think that depriving families of their livelihood is no big deal. Would you be
willing to give up your salaries for no good reason?
This county has to stop listening to people who have been hoodwinked by someone with a personal agenda. I
would say "special interests' but it's worse than that. This is one wealthy person who seemingly has an axe to
grind and will do whatever it takes to drive an industry out of business. Our elected decision -makers
shouldn't be doing the bidding of one person who is not even from this island. It's a sad way for ordinances to
be decided.
