My message to the Committee: Aloha Chair Witte
and AWES Committee Members,
'.I support Bill 318 protecting Hawaii's reef wildlife from harmful
aquarium trade starvation and insufficient water volume during
shipping.
Mahalo for the opportunity!
I was very upset when a few years ago, West Hawaii today had a photo
of dead yellow tangs on the jetty at Honokahao harbor. The aquarium
fish collectors killed these fish while hunting for them and instead
of even allowing their bodies to return to where they were born, they
just discarded them as ifthey were trash. This kind ofdisrespect
for other living creatures have got to stop. I know mankind does what
he likes because he can but taking from our reefs isjust wrong.
All creatures should be allowed to live their lives to the fullest
without being sucked up into bags, having their lungs popped and sold
to some aquarium. This is against nature and those of you who have
the power to stop it must give it a try even if it's challenging to
police this activity.
Sincerely,
Colleen
