My message to the Committee: Aloha Chair Wille and Committee Members,
I strongly oppose fish collecting altogether. It is a short sited
practice that is harmful to our economy and to our way of life. it
should be banned.
Short of an outright ban, Bill 318 would protect Hawaii's reef
.wildlife from harmful aquarium trade starvation and insufficient water
volume during shipping. it not a ban then at least put some
restrictions on it.
Further, if there is not a ban, then I support additional Cees on fish
collectors - fees that would be based on their take are appropriate.
Given that fish collectors currently only pay S50 for a permit, this
amounts to a taking of the public's natural resources without just
compensation back to the public Make them pay for what they do to
our reefs!
Finally, there needs to be enforcement of the few rules already on the
books.
Please do the right thing and stop this insanity.
