To Pfesented Cothle_,L Ref, llate- ~r ~r The Hawaii Island Veterans Memorial Inc., supports Councilman's Yagong's motion to amend Mr. Tyler's recommendation, we feel that all the other non-profit agencies should make that special exception this year and allow funds to be granted to the Veterans Center for Start Up Costs on this one time basis. We will not come before the Hawaii County Council for a Grant of any nature in the future, the Veterans Center project will be a self sufficient facility. The Organizational structure is planned to operate within its income and Fund Raising efforts. We therefore, ask for this one time consideration of support, and approval of Councilman Yagong's amendment which provides fairness, accuracy, and equitable amounts to all non-profit agencies requesting a Grant. The amendment makes the appropriate consideration of including all non-profit agencies. We wish to commend and thank Councilman Yagong for his expeditious and very detailed adequate re evaluation of the $900,000 allocation for grants by the Hawaii County Human Services Grants Committee. His efforts and amendment are fair and reconcilable. Mr. Chairman I want to inclose a letter which I just received from United States Senator Daniel K. Inouye, who supports our project on the Combined Veterans Center and provides his backing on the concept to the Hawaii State Senate and House of Representatives, he also has coorsponded with V A Regional David Burge, reference the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC). I read your letter with much interest. I support your concept of a combined veterans center to provide veterans with a single location from which to receive services and assistance. I understand that your funding request has been approved by the Hawaii State House of Representatives, and is pending conference deliberations with the Senate. I will do what I can to put in a good word for your project. I have also communicated with the Veterans Administration in Hawau, and urged their support of your combined center, and to consider becoming a tenant upon its completion. I am confident that Regional Director David Burge will share with you their procurement requirements at the appropriate time. Dear I am a private Citizen, and I would Gke to say, there has never been a Veterans Center, for Veterans activities, in Hilo, Hi.. The Veterans have been waiting for many years for this facility, they shouldn't have to wait that long. They have been willing to give their Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness to assure the freedom of us Citizens of this brave Nation. Now its time for the Citizens to support the Veterans by giving some compensation that benefits the Veterans and at the same time provides a service to the Veterans, the wmmunity, and Hawaii County. Most all Veterans and their families are good voting Citizens and have earned their status and respect in the community. They are Home owners, taxpayers, businessman, elected officials, professional people, and teachers. They deserve this Combined Veterans Center that will provide them with a Medical Treatment Service facility, and Counseling programs. The County of Hawaii should not ask the Veterans to do without this Facility any longer. I humbly urge you to vote for approval of the Grant Request that provides for futtds for start up costs to build the Combined Veterans Center in Hilo, Hi. This Veterans Center will be a big help to all Veterans and their families, and it will also employ a number of people from the Hilo area, on a permanent basis, which will definitely help Hilo, and Hawaii County Economy.
