RE: HUMAN SERVICES GRANT APPROPRIATIONS FOR THE FCS
Dear Chair Arakaki and Members of the County Council,
The Family Crisis Shelter, Incorporated (FCS) would like to express our heartfelt
thank you for your considered funding appropriations for our organization. We
would like to urge the Council to keep the FCS recommended appropriations of
$20,000 for our West Hawaii Crisis Shelter, that will assist serving battered
women and children. The second appropriation of $9,000 fof our Alternatives to
Violence Program wiN assist in funding necessary staff and program expenses to
continue teaching betterers that violence i8 not acceptable and learning anger
management.
We would like to reiterate that the $20,000 and $9,000 appropriations would do
the following for the County of Hawaii:
• Provide access to a Crisis Shelter in West Hawaii, which is the only one of its
kind.
• Give clients opportunities to develop,a safety plan for themselves and their
children, and exploring ways to live a life without family violence.
• Reduce the frequency and severity of abuse from betterers through the ATV
program.
Please help the gamily Crisis Shelterln bringing peace to our /eland
homes by suppon'Ing such programs. The victims, survivors, $nd
especially the chAdren witnessing end experience domestic violence, need
your attention in stopping the abuse and start the healing process.
