Dear Sir:
As President of the Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce I want to express our opposition to the proposed
changes to the sign code. We do not understand why the existing code needs to be changed.
We can not easily determine what existing signs will continue to meet this new sign ordinance. As drafted
some businesses within 36 months of approval may have to take down existing signs that met the existing
code. I am not :m attorney. but that seems to be a taking. What is the financial impact on die County of
This proposed bill? How many businesses will the Cowuy need to reimburse for their existing sign,
removah cost of new sign and inslallalion costs? Does HPM's new signs meet this new code'? Whal abom
the new Shopping center with Borders, WAL-MART and others? We need to encourage sucessful business
dccclopmcnt.
We think the new penalty of $1(1(1.(10 per day for non-compliance is not a reasonable amount.
We do not support vw change Ote size of signs that support the Real Estate industn.
Please do not support this proposed sign ordinance. With our straggling economy, [his is not the time for
Govermnent to become more intensive and restrictive on businesses.
