Hussey, "Keanahalululu" TMK: 5-9-007:007 (Sub 91-174) We aze writing to update you on our progress toward fulfilling the requirements of our rezoning ordinance. Work, completed to date, includes the following: Grade staking and completion of rough grading Design review with the Hawaii Electric Light Company: Engineering Dept. Cost research, including receipt of quotes for materials for the electrical and water systems. Contract negotiations for the rock work, including headwalls, and related wingwalls. Materials are on-site for an auxiliary water system to aid in dust control and compaction. Steel I-beams, and related parts, for the construction of a large cattle guard are on order. The cattle guard will facilitate an open pasture, grazing program for fire prevention. Culverts for the three smaller drainageways are on site. Our major delay has been the re-design of our largest drainageway. Our consulting engineers have reseazched a wide variety of potential crossings, including double arch pipe culverts, steel I-beam bridge, box culverts, concrete arches fabricated on Maui and shipped to the site, shotcrete and steel bridge fabricated on site, and a ford, or low level, crossing. The resulting design, a corrugated structural plate arch, was submitted to the County in January 1999, and will, hopefully, be approved soon, so the required parts may be ordered. The advantages, of the structural plate arch over the original plan of double arch culverts, are: 1. The costs of the corrugated arch bridge and the headwalls are lower. 2. There will be no obstntction coming down into the middle of the riverbed tp snag debris, which could have potentially blocked the culverts. 3. By means of setting the arched bridge bases into footings on either side of the riverbed, the natural boulder faces of the riverbed will be left exposed to view. ~~.5~ .,_,02/09/88.
