Dear Mr. Arakaki:
I am writing this letter to ask for your support for our Hawaii County Band's continued
funding for the next fiscal year.
While I am aware that funding for various programs will be cut in our community
because of the projected budget shortfall for the next fiscal year, I am disturbed that
funding cannot be found for this band program which has for the past 116 years,
provided entertainment, pride and cultural awareness in citizens of our community.
The County Band serves as an ongoing conduit of learning for many young musicians
whereby students from all over the island have auditioned and perfected their craft. In
addition, the County Band has participated in numerous community events, adding life to
school programs, all of our parades, (Merrie Monarch, Lehua Jaycees' Christmas,
Pahoa Communty Christmas, Waimea's Christmas, Kona's King Kamehameha), and
non-profit fundraising events for the American Lung Association, American Cancer
Society, Easter Seals- to name a few.
The Hawaii County Band is a piece of history in our Hawaii County. Without them, we
would be doing a disservice to our community. Please support their continued funding.
