Ladies & Gentlemen:
Kona has waited a very long time for this community pool. It's only days
before it's officail opening and you are telling us we need to pay fees. Is
Kona being whip-lashed for having spoken up that we would like our share of our
taxes returned...the pool being just one of the returns.
I was informed there is "no free lunch". That is correct--for Kona. I
was informed that our taxes are only for police and fire services. This is
incorrect. Taxes are for police, fire, shcools, roads, and parks. The swimming
pool is a part of our Old Airport Complex Park.
All the "non-profit" person(s), agencies, firms. All the new programs,
services springing up, asking for handouts from the county. All the "give me
this, give me that" functions/activities should not even be considered by our
taxes.
Mr. Stan Roehig and the few other privileged utilized the Laupahoehoe pool
for over two years without being assessed fees. (Not a moot subject) The total
community now has the privilege of paying their back fees! Or is there a much
larger reason for this fee assessment. Perhaps so the county can claim they are
not generating enough money and so they'll turn it over to a "for profit"
organization/company, for a pittance annual fee and then proceed to profit off
the community.
If we the swimmers of the community need to pay for the privilege of
"exercising, unstressing, physical therapy, just plain relaxing" then it must be
in the works to have each basketball player, each volleyball player using the
gym; each football player, each soccer player, each picniker, each jogger, each
runner, each walker using the fields; each skateboarder, each roller-bladder in
the rinks; each child using the keiki/pre-teen playground to pay their way also.
Let us not forget each cowpoke using the arena. What about all the Ironman
competitors who will surely be practicing in our new pool. Don't forget to charge
each of them as they practice running/walking on our county roads for this event.
Let us advance one more step: how about each swimmer in the ocean....
All is not well in Denmark, and most especially bare ie Kona. There are
large groups of disadvantaged folks here on the entire island that can't afford
$2.00 per person per day. I'm one of them.
All wet (if I can find $2.00) over the whole idea. ~
