Subs: County Council Budget Hearings
Aloha Julie.
In view of the reported county budget shortfall and the possible
affect that this could have on the Prosecuting Attorney's office
and the Police Dept., I have become very concerned. The Prose-
cuting Attorney's office presently has an unreasonable back-log,
and the Police Dept. in our district of Ka'u presently has only
2 officers on duty at any given time to cover an area larger
than the Island of Maui. Any reduction in funding for these
departments will have a serious detrimental affect on civilian
safety and due process of law.
I urge you to approve full funding for the Prosecuting Attorney's
and the Police Dept. at the budget hearing to be held on Mar. 30.
