Dear Ms. Pisicchio:
As you begin your deliberation on the Department of Research and
Development's departmental budget, I would like to express my
concern that there be no more budget cuts done in the-area of
tourism. Presently our island is woefully under budget in our
efforts to generate tourism to our island.
For years I have watched Maui succeed quite well in gaining
tourists to their island. We also see considerable financial
support by the county council and the administration on the Island
of Maui for tourism promotion.
While we have had the support of the County of Hawaii's
administration and the Hawaii County Council in the past and we are
grateful for the support that has lead to direct flights and
increased occupancy to our island, now is not the time to reduce
our promotional dollars with the market so competitive.
