SUBJECT: Police Coverage and Prevention Programs

It has come to my attention that there are plans afoot to cut back on such auxiliary police
programs as DARE and HiPAL. I believe that both programs have been instrumental in crime
prevention by providing an incentive and a direction to youth in the azea. They also make kids a
part of a "team", resulting in closer and more positive relations with the police.
I have also heard that police coverage might be pulled back. It is quite thin coverage as it is.
The Community Watch program, a volunteer organization, tries to work in tamdem with the
police, but can only do so much. Police should be added to the Ocean View coverage instead of
removed from it.
