Dear Council Members,
I am here to testify in support of the Prosecuting Attorney budget for FY 99-00.
The Prosecutors Office has for years worked cooperatively with the Retail
Committee members on problems such as shoplifting, credit card fraud, return
checks, trespass, internal theft, liquor violations. They are active in public issues
such as decriminalization of marijuana, and the eradication program, alternative
sentencing, community policing, neighborhood and business watch, domestic
violence. They continue to be a prime supporter of the McGruff, Shoplifters
Take Everybody's Money (S.T.E.M.) and Child Identification program for our
keiki.
In these lean times, Public Safety should be the last area that should be subject
to the ax. If we rated overall community involvement, the Prosecutors Office should
be ranked up there. I find this office staffed with quality people, who are dedicated
and committed towards helping business in this community.
