Recycling is smart, educational and long lasting.
Recycling is smart because it keeps recyclable materials such as telephone books, news-
papers and aluminum cans and others out of ow landfill, protects the envirorunent,
protects ow precious natwal resowces by not cutting more trees for paper, mining, etc.
Let's be smart, choose dwable reusable products when possible, buy recyclable products,
avoid extra packaging, avoid hazardous chemicals, limit unnecessary pwchases, sell or
donate leftovers, start compost piles and be more concerned.
It is also educational for all, especially ow students, the futwe of our state, to continue
the example of recycling and keeping these recyclable out of ow landfill. Landfill is
costly and contributes to waste and unnecessary addition to our unsanitary condition.
Fight pollution by helping to keep ow air, water and land clean. Don't litter. It is also
helpful for ow plants and animals. Conserve energy by not wasting our fuel or forests.
Students learn in class from ow recycling centers' tows, displays, etc.
Recycling really makes sense any way you look at it. It's a way of taming household
materials into new products. It is long lasting as students all teach other children that
recycling is good for ow environment, help preserve ow natwal resowces, reduce
pollution and save money,

Here at Keaukaha Elementary School we have been actively recycling telephone books,
newspapers and aluminum cans throughout the year. It is also financially rewazding for
the classes as monies earned offset costs to students, pazents and teachers which include
transportation for educational excursions, materials, get-togethers, etc.
Please do not approve Bill 45 as it will not benefit us as it does now. Please take into
consideration the above to meet our needs.
As an added note you should know that the services to our school by Recycling System
Hawaii, Inc. on Railroad Avenue for the telephone books and especially the fantastic
services of Mike Allen and his crew at Environmental Recycling for the pickup and
delivery of bins for our newspaper and aluminum can recycling the past three yeazs. '
On behalf of the students and teachers at Keaukaha Elementary School, I thank you very
much for considering this written testament.
