Dear CountiylCoundl Members,
I am writing �W letter because I will not be able to make t4 the Public Hearing to testify for the DAME.
program. However, I feel that it is very important that I have input on behalf of the D.ASZ Program.
I have wor for the Departnient of Education teaching grade 5 for almost seven (7) years now. During
my first year, I was invited in assist at the D.A.R.E. Summer (:amp. I felt that this was very rewarding
for the students and the staff and have assisted in various ways ever since_
I honestly feel that having a D.AR.E. officer visit the classroom for one 0) semester is a valuable
experience f�oT the children The D.AR.E officer brings realism into the classroom. The officer has
experiencesShare with the students. The students look forward Wanother adult teacher the
classroom. Students also fed the genuine concerns caring, and interest the officer has in Their l v�
The D.A. officer also brings more positive influences to a student's life. Face it; some students only
see police o it Lrs in general as a negative stweotype. Having a D.A. E officer in the classroom offs
them the opportunity to see police officers as a positive stereotype_ The officer becomes someone ilwy
can look up to, share concerns with, another adult in their lives they can trust Many students say they
W91 remain drug and violence free. They know that if they need help once in intermediate or high
school they can call the D.A.R.E. officers at the Community Wations Office. They ,feel more comfortable
knowing �y have a connection to help them drug and violence free.
The D.A.RE , program is very successful due to the dedicated people who run it No one can run it if
you don'tP fund it. Please answer our call and fund the D.A RE. program.
