We also are coll ~~ffi~t 11 ~ ~ ~on of property owners. The list is growing daily, and presently I estimate 16~~. ~ s~nded the Fern Acres Community Association meeting on Saturday, February 15, 1997. There was a question and answer session on the merits and impact of my Bed & Breakfast. This was followed by a vote resulting in 21in favor of and 3 against. I compared the protester's list of 25 names with the tax rolls of Fern Acres and found only 7 property owners or 141egitimate names. The nearest protester is one street over and over two miles away. I wonder if the Council should be requiring me to deal with people I do not impact. This is a huge subdivision and these people live miles away, and should have no intluence on the Council's decisions. It sets a dangerous precedence for the county. The protesters of my B & B are not representative of our community. They represent their own personal agenda, which is to stop all development in our subdivision. The reasons are simple and few: Number one is land management or stewardship of someone else's property. We have four thousand acres and over rivent}~ve miles of road, with approximately two hundred homes in our subdivision. The lots are very narrow, only one hundred feet wide, so it is no wonder that people are stressed when the lot next door is bulldozed and built upon. They lose their privacy and landscape. It is just like being in downtown Hilo. Number two is that some of the protesters are on limited incomes and subsidies, and are very concerned of further development, resulting in a higher tax base. Third and last is the criminal element, which produce and disperse illegal drugs. The protesters are using the County and the Council in an effort to stop development. They are using half truths, personal slurs and character assassinating in an effort to stop development. The protesters are on record being against paved roads, a volunteer fire station, parks for our kids, mail boxes, 25mph speed limits, and now my B&B. As I am the first to apply, they must by any means stop me, as others will surely follow if I succeed. The addition to my home is now complete and should be ready to do business in thirty days. My neighbors on all four sides, within the three hundred foot requirement, have not objected to my B&B. Patrick Sager, President of the Board of Directors of Fern Acres Community Association is in full support of this endeavor. The Fem Acres Board of Directors has previously written to the Council a letter of non objection to my B&B.
