PLEASE SUPPORT PUBLIC SAFETY AND RECREATION PROGRAMS
I am a resident of the Ka'u District and writing in support of Mayor Steven Yamashiro's
budget proposal for the fiscal year 1999/2000.
It is my understanding that the Mayor's operating budget is balanced on the assumption
that the County Council will free up $7.9 million in cash to be used as security for a bond
issue.
I am in support of this and especially in favor of it because it includes maintaining the
police department's overtime budget, continuation of the D.A.R.E. and Hi -Pal drug
education and youth sport programs, and the police department's proposed pre -
arraignment detention facility.
Recreation is also one of my concerns. Recreation is the number one partner in Crime
Prevention. Please do what you can to maintain or improve our recreation programs.
