Dear Council Member,
. Qwnt✓ CnuncI1-- `
I am a resident of the Ka'u District.
I support any effort by the Mayor or the County
Council to maintain our police department programs for dealing with and preventing
crime.
I understand that the Mayor's proposed budget also aims at keeping a majority of the
police department's funding in place, as opposed to some proposed reductions.
I am particularly concerned about reducing funds to our police department. Public Safety
is a very important issue. The police department at its current staffing level is barely
keeping up with crime problems. Cutting their budget would severely reduce their
capabilities, and may even contribute to a loss of ground gained in the fight to prevent
crime.
I believe that Crime Prevention is one of our most important social issues. A handle on
crime may reduce the need for other governmental services.
Please support the Mayor's budget proposal, which will help the police department to
continue its crime prevention programs.
Thank you for your concern.
Sincerely,
®r/
