In the writing this letter in regards to SCD Kahakai LLC development of a 98.1 acre lot
sllbdlVl510n.
I would like the Council to consider the projects looaticn and original wmmitmeM to provide a
Public Mauka - Makai access road and the need for an adequate Tsunami evacuadon route.
In the lasts 75 years our state has beensWCk by 10 tsunami's 1922, 23, 24, 33, 3T, 46, 52, 60.
64 and in 1975. A total of 224 people statewide were killed by these large wave events.
The May 221960 Tsunami originated in Chile and by the lima reached Hilo the 34 foot wave
killed 81 people. The wrap of the wave swept in two Kailua Kona destroying homes and taking
out some of Kona's orlginel fishing Oeet.
In Puako eight homes wtro destroyed. All this from a wave hitting the other side of the island.
If you look at the frequencies of these large wave events simple arithmetic tells us the next
big wave Is way overdue.
A large percerrtage of the condominiums along Alii drive are located tliroclly aoroaa from the
SCD project slte and the many people who live there will someday need an adequate
evacuation route. (see enclosed map )
With these stedslics in mind I respectfully ask the council not to amend this rs•zaNng roquest
unless a proper Public Mauka - Makei access road is built.
