RESOLUTION NO. 181
STATE OF HAWAII
is
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PAYMENT OF FUNDS OF A LATER FISCAL
YEAR AND OF MORE THAN ONE FISCAL YEAR FOR A MULTI-YEAR LEASE OF
REAL PROPERTY FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE, DIVISION OF VEHICLE
REGISTRATION AND LICENSING, WAIMEA OFFICE.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII.
WHEREAS, Section 10-11 of the County Charter requires that any contract, lease or
other obligation requiring payment of funds from the appropriations of a later fiscal year or of
more than one fiscal year be approved by resolution; and
WHEREAS, due to the loss of office space at the Hawaii County Police Department
Waimea Station, the Department of Finance, Division of Vehicle Registration and Licensing
("VRL") requires office space in Waimea; and
WHEREAS, VRL seeks office space in the Waimea Center, 65-1158 Mamalahoa
Highway, Waimea, Hawaii owned and operated by Puna Plantation Hawaii, Limited, on a ten
year initial term with optional 5 year terms; and
WHEREAS, this lease will include improvements made by Puna Plantation Hawaii,
LTD., to accommodate the VRL operation to be reimbursed over the course of the lease term;
now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into a ten (10) year lease agreement with option years for
VRL for premises located at Waimea Center, 65-1158 Mamalahoa Highway, Waimea, Hawaii
pursuant to Section 10-11 Hawaii County Charter.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that sufficient funds be budgeted in future fiscal years to cover the anticipated
obligations of the County under the terms of the lease agreement.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to:
(1) Mayor William P. Kenoi; (2) Department of Finance; (3) Craig T. Masuda, Deputy
Corporation Counsel; and (4) Department of Finance, Division of Vehicle Registration and
Licensing.
