Dear Chairman Kanuha and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Mr. Stephen D. Lopez, of Council District 8 to the Hawai
County Liquor Commission. He is a 17 -year resident of Hawaii. Mr. Lopez retired in
2007 from Hewlett-Packard Co., Inc. where he was a Project Manager/Process
Improvement Consultant. He also worked as a Legislative Research Specialist for
former Councilman Angel Pilago.
Mr. Lopez is the State Deputy for the Hawaii Knights of Columbus. He is a Transition
Director for the Lavaman Triathlon, a Timing Director for the Ironman World
Championship, and a Special Olympics coach. He states that he is not affiliated with
any political party. If confirmed, Mr. Lopez will serve a term that ends on December 31,
2018, filling a term that has been vacant since December 31, 2013.

Pursuant to Section 2(g) of Rule 4 of the Rules and Procedure of the Council of the County of
Hawaii, this written request is submitted with my approval that the above -referenced matter be
waived from the Committee on Public Safety and Mass Transit to the full Council for immediate
action. In reviewing this matter, timely approval is crucial. It is therefore advantageous that
approval is granted and the matter be placed on the next Council agenda for review. However, in
the event this request is denied, for whatever reason, I understand the matter shall be referred to
the Committee on Public Safety and Mass Transit for placement on its future agenda.
