No. 284/Bill No. 48 PLACE: Council Chambers Hilo, Hawai`i TIME: 9:01 a.m. Council Chair and Members Hawai`i County Council Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation,to which was referred Bill No. 48, reports as follows: Bill No. 48,transmitted by Council Member Karen Eoff,via Communication No. 284 dated April 17, 2015, names a county park and recreation facility at Kohanaiki, District of North Kona, County of Hawai`i, and amends Chapter 15, Article 8, Section 15-68.1 of the Hawai`i County Code 1983 (2005 Edition, as amended), relating to the parks and recreational facility schedule. The bill names the beach park located at Kohanaiki,North Kona, the "Kohanaiki Beach Park." Council Member Eoff, who is in support of Bill No. 48, clarified to the Council that the intent of the proposed amendment to Chapter 15, Hawai`i County Code, related to the parks and recreational facility schedule, is just a necessary formality. She noted that the County acquired the shoreline parcel two years ago and added that the park is being well maintained by the community. Several Council Members expressed their support for Bill No. 48. Chair Kanuha and Council Members David and Chung voiced their gratitude to Council Member Eoff and to the community for their years of effort and dedication in seeing Kohanaiki Park come to fruition. Deputy Director Ken Van Bergen of Parks and Recreation appeared before Your Committee for questions. He expressed his support and stated that the County's partnership with Kohanaiki Shores is a model for other parks.
