Subject: Replace toxic chemicals to protect human health and the environment
Aloha, council members,
There's no good reason why our government should use toxic, damaging substances to keep our roadsides and public places "safe'
and beautiful, especially when studies now show conclusively that glyphosphate is harmful and dangerous to human health. And
neonicitinoids are strongly implicated in the die -off of important bee populations. These facts added to the news that comes in regularly
of school children being sickened by chemicals sprayed near or on school property. Auwe.
Towns around the country are using acetic acid (vinegar) and other far less toxic herbicides than glyphosphate to control weeds and
and are also trimming roadway plants instead of spraying them. Now, that's the way to keep our highways, schools and other public
places beautiful and safe!
I've used and continued to use nontoxic herbicides and pesticides as well as other management techniques for over 25 years to
successfully control weeds and pests in my plant nursery and farm. The county can do it, too.
It's not worth poisoning our children and our environment to protect ourselves against weeds. especially when there are safer, saner
alternatives.
