Wrong #1 is the ever-increasing global deluge of waste materials which are piling up, both residentially and commercially, and which the planet is ever more challenged to deal with, and ultimately dispose of, using present day solutions, some still as primitive as open landfills. Wrong #2 is the intermittent nature of Renewable Energy resources, be they wind, solar, tidal or any other form of harnessing nature's abundant, and 100% clean, energies. The "missing piece" unfortunately is still one of viable, economical forms of Renewable Energy Storage. Fortunately, Dr. Bruce Tilley of Gainesville, FL, a prominent American -based consultant in microbial technologies, has made that essential connection. In 2014, Or. Tilley joined the founders and BOD members of NH3 Europa ApS, based internationally in Horsens, Denmark, a company devoted to the Innovation of Renewable Energy Storage Solutions, in the form of green chemical fuels. He then introduced the firm to yet another whole universe of possibilities, derived from converting Waste -to -Energy, but by a new and much more efficient method, being pioneered by Quantera Energy, also in nearby Florida, and with common professional connections, via the University of Florida. The key ingredient here is that Quantera has developed a proprietary (patent pending) technology, called Hydrogasification©, which not only gasifies any form of MSW (Municipal Solid Waste), but does so, so completely, that virtually nothing but pure Hydrogen is emitted, and at unprecedented economics. Problem #1 : What to do with all of that H2, as it is being produced, within a simple, safe and practical methodology of storage and transport. Enter NH3 Europa, whose core technology is based on their proprietary process (Awarded U.S. Patent, 2014) of converting Renewable Energy into liquid NH3, and storing it safely and economically, as Anhydrous Ammonia, commonly known commercially as liquid fertilizer. However, within this overall chain of processes, the single largest capital expense to dale has been the electrolysis of Hydrogen from water. In fact, almost 50% of the capital cost is dedicated to the production -of -Hydrogen sub -system. Comm. No Ref. Ref. Dote APR 2 1 Enter the symbiosis. NH3 1' Europa r k NH3 * Canada By "synergizing" their two respective systems, Quantera and NH3 are now able to offer a turnkey end-to-end solution for Waste-to-Hydrogen-to-NH3, which the partners believe to be unprecedented, in both its efficiency, and its overall profitability. The net result is a "whole system', one which is capable of turning the problem of waste treatment and disposal into one of treating all waste as new and highly valuable, and renewable, resources. As Dr. Tilley explains, "These two companies really were working in two different worlds, technically as well as geographically, neither realizing how close to each others' solutions they were working on. The common denominator was Hydrogen, in its purest form, with Quantera producing it, in abundance, and NH3 requiring to produce it, locally and on-site, for their own suite of solutions, for the safe storage and transport of commercial renewable energy. The two were literally made for each other." Robert Leth, currently serving as Managing Director for NH3 Europa ApS, couldn't possibly agree more, "Our own focus of using NH3 as an energy storage medium, makes it possible for us to utilize almost any source of Hydrogen, most commonly by the electrolysis of water. Aside from the new efficiencies of the Quarters process, as intended for their core purposes of waste management, they have now also brought to the table a new and exciting aftemative, for the production of Hydrogen itself. It really is a classic win/win scenario, and effectively doubles each of our respective business plans, immediately, in all respects'. Next Steps: As part of this overall collaboration, internationally and globally, the parties are further pleased to announce that they have entered into an M.O.U. (Memorandum Of Understanding) to build, operate and maintain a full-scale pilot plant facility near Gainesville, Florida, to be known as "Quantera Brooker", named for the town of its location. The $20M facility is being built as both a fully commercial operation, capable of processing up to 50 Tons of MSW per Day, as well as serving as Demonstration Site and ongoing Research and Development Center, for the Americas. Quantera Brooker will be a fully integrated facility, built upon the team's many years of experience in building and maintaining such commercial -scale operations, globally. And as the many tons of waste per day are processed into Hydrogen, portions of that H2 stream will be re -circulated as energy input, and the rest, diverted to the NH3 side of the house, and further converted into pure liquid Anhydrous Ammonia, for storage, and available to generate electricity, on demand, as required on-site, and/or for generation and sale, with 0% Emissions. As Quantera Energy's CEO, John Anderson explains, "This facility will not only be state of the art, but will in fact advance the art, of treating and decomposing nearly any form of waste materials, through our process of Hydrogasification. Then, when married with the NH3 technology, we are further able to create am entire circular economy, by being able to produce renewable energy on demand, even as baseload generation, as well as a raft of NH3 '}" Europa I=- NH, + Canada new products and services. If ever it was true, this collaboration is one of true synergy, technically and between all the members of our respective teams". Construction of Quantera Brooker is scheduled to commence shortly, and all engineering and permitting operations are already now in full swing. Full commercial operation is projected for early Q1, 2016. About Quantera & Hydrogasification© The gasification process developed by Quantera Hydrogen Gasification© (QHG) incorporates the technology of feeding all types of carbon and non -carbon based municipal solid wastes, municipal sewage sludges and other associated waste streams into a pyrolysis reactor chamber (the gasifier reactor) in an oxygen starved environment along with a controlled amount of steam. At QHG's high operating temperatures and pressures, created by the gasification process, chemical bonds are broken by oxidation with steam causing very rapid reactions and complete waste treatment. The inorganic material is fused or vitrified to form a molten glass -like substance called slag. The use of hydrogen gas (or natural gas as the specific project warrants) as the primary fuel source (synthetic fuel) during the gasification process is unique and different from those conventional treatment processes. Incineration uses carbon -based fuels as the source of energy with direct heat source impingement upon the waste stream. With the use of carbon -based fuels and the inability to reach high enough temperature assuring complete combustion, insufficient combustion occurs thus emitting additional amounts of carbon, nitrogen, sulfur, chlorine, furans and other constituents associated with carbon based fuel ignition treatment into the air discharge system. Hydrogen and syngas as applied by QHG greatly minimizes the emissions of such contaminants thus making QHG gasification more efficient with reduced emission outputs or in some instances, elimination of such emissions. The municipal solid waste feedstock is generally dried before being subjected to the pyrolysis process. Pyrolysis is the thermal decomposition of solid fuel into simple molecules in the absence of an oxidizing agent. Pyrolysis is an endothermic process requiring an external heat source, and the reaction typically occurs at temperature ranges of 200°C to 500°C. In a partial oxidation process, air is used to support the combustion of some of the feedstock to maintain the necessary temperature for pyrolysis. In the QHG process, no drying is required. In fact, it is combined with municipal sewage sludge as a slurry and introduced into the reactor as a wet composition. In the QHG process, an external heating process that does not involve generating heat in the reactor chamber, provides the source of heat without the introduction of air and its associated nitrogen and other naturally occurring constituents into the treatment process. The QHG process can operate and reach temperatures in the 1000-2000"C range. However, standard operating temperatures are in the 900-1000°C range. In independent university studies, the syngas quality varies largely depending on the gasification temperature. At lower temperature (at around 600°C) more methane is produced along with tars and particulates. High temperature gasification (900'C or greater) is preferred when the target syngas product is mostly hydrogen and carbon NH3 ?" Europa G NH3 * Canada J monoxide. Furthermore the amount of tar and particulates in the product gas would be insignificant when the gasification temperature is higher. Gasification can be used to manufacture hydrogen gas and syngas through the process of gasifying carbon based fuel stocks. Oil sludge and oily wastes, pet coke, coal wastes and even municipal sewage sludge, all low BTU value waste material, can be used as substrates which will be turned into more valuable material by: Increasing the level of the BTU value in the gasification process. The manufacture of hydrogen and syngas for re -use or for commercial application. Process diagram: 7--1_ . r _ ,_ _ manM w.., About NH3 from Renewable Energy Anhydrous Ammonia is the more common name for NH3, meaning that it is ammonia without water present. It is also more commonly known as liquid fertilizer, and one of the most widely produced and shipped commodities, throughout the entire word. Unfortunately, the existing process (Haber -Bosch), produces ammonia by the reforming of natural gas, or even the burning of coal. Which means that it cannot be produced without the burning of large amounts of fossil fuels, nor the GHGs (GreenHouse Gases), which they consequently emit. That is, until now The key to this new (U.S. Patent Awarded, 2014) approach to producing NH3, is to convert electrical energy, if and when it is being generated, into what amounts to being a liquid fuel, and then simply storing it, or even transporting it, to wherever and whenever it is needed, within conventional metal tanks. Conveniently, this entire infrastructure is already in place, as widely used daily for the transportation and application of liquid fertilizers, worldwide. NH3 I' Europa GSM NH3 + Canada And it just gets better: If you then produce NH3 using electricity (which this process does), instead of burning natural gas, and furthermore, if that electricity is renewable (wind, solar, tidal, etc.), the final NH3 product then becomes "Green" NH3, with 0% GHGS emitted, throughout the entire production chain. And last, but not least, if you are using wind or solar power to produce NH3, you can now also store that energy inexpensively, and then use it later as a fuel for electrical generators, thereby producing "windpower, when the wind doesn't blow", and solar power "when the sun doesn't shine". The developers believe this to be a true "game changer". And to make it even more attractive, since the NH3 now being produced is also 100% Emissions Free, it can also be used as an alternative transport fuel, being 100% Carbon Free, as a direct substitute for most gasoline, diesel, and jet fuels, in daily use today. Minus the emissions, of course. The breakthrough technology featured within this patent, is already licensed exclusively, worldwide, by NH3 Canada Inc, who are currently in advanced stages of commercializing the technology, and sister company NH3 Europa ApS, the separate entity incorporated in Denmark the year before last (2013), to further develop, integrate and deploy NH3 systems and projects, throughout the wider European Union, and beyond. The company is quick to recognize the assistance and ongoing support of a number of DK agencies; notably Invest in Denmark, CapNova, INSERO Business Services and CopCap, as well as NRC -TRAP and the Marine Energy Association, in Canada.
