Aloha Chair Eoff, Vice Chair Poindexter and members of the Council,
I am Nancy Carr Smith, and I support Bill #29 as it relates to funds for the continued efforts of building the Waimea
District Park.
I am a resident of Waimea, a business owner, and I am Vice President of Waimea Community Association. I feel that I
have a good grasp on the cross section of our community and its needs.
I also want to offer my general support of the Mayor and his budget. Billy Kenoi has been a wonderful Mayor. He cares
about the important stuff, people. Keiki to kupuna, the needs of all are different and he makes sure that all residents of
Hawaii Island are heard and treated with respect and aloha. He makes sure that he is surrounded by good, smart people
working with him and alongside him every day. He is a good man, a relatively young man who has a great future ahead
of him and part of his success, is dependent upon you. This smart, young man and his cabinet are all working very hard
to accomplish the things that they feel need to be done before they leave office at the end of next year. That's what this
budget is about and I think you owe it to this county and to this administration to allow them to complete their work
with respect and aloha.
This includes the hill which supports and enables our longtime dream of Waimea District Park to become a reality. I
remember watching my son play baseball in Waimea with Mel and Page Macy, and their son was playing too. We talked
about how great it will be when we get the park built. That was about 10 years ago. It's a long time to wait for ball
fields for our kids to play on, and our kids are since grown and off on their own, but we all continue to work toward the
dream of having this for our community. We thank Parker Ranch, the Mayor, Parks and Rec. and Senator Malama
Solomon for all of the hard work that has been put into this project. The community efforts and involvement in this
project have been impressive and there is a solid group of people that will see this through to its blessing. The County
and State collaboration is something we are grateful and proud of and we ask for your continued support of this budget
so that the funds for this project can be attained.
