Dear Chairman Kanuha and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate the following individuals to the Kona Community
Development Plan Action Committee:
Kari Kimura - Ms. Kimura is a 34-year resident of Hawaii. She is a self-employed
architect. Ms. Kimura is secretary of the American Institute of Architects — Hawai'i
Island Section, secretary of the Konawaena Foundation, and treasurer of Holualoa
School PTO. She is a former board member of the Holualoa Foundation for Arts
and Culture. She was previously appointed to this committee for a one year term
that expired on March 31, 2015. Hawaii County Charter Section 13-4(c), states
that "members of any board or commission appointed for a term of two years or
less shall be eligible to succeed themselves for an additional full term. If she is
confirmed today, she will serve a full four year term to end on March 31, 2019.
Charles Young - Mr. Young is a lifelong resident of Hawaii. He retired from the
Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Corporation in 2011, where he was employed as a
manager for seven years. Mr. Young is a member of the Hawaii Island Burial
Council, and the Saddle Road Task Force. If confirmed, he will serve a term to
end on March 31, 2017, and be eligible at that time to be reappointed for a full four
year term.

Shane Palacat-Nelson — Mr. Nelson is a lifelong resident of Hawaii. He is
employed by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs doing community outreach. Mr. Nelson
is a member of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs and the Army Garrison-
Pohakuloa Training Area Cultural Advisory Council. He is also a member and
chair of the Kahu Ku Mauna Cultural Advisory Council. If confirmed, he will serve
a term to end on March 31, 2019.
