Kahakai Suhdtvlston.
T am a homeowner on Kaheiau Street in the Komoltana subdivision, 5 doors away from
Lako Street, and a daily user of this mauka-makai connection of our subdivision that we
share with Kilohana, Royal Poinciana, and virtually all others that wish to traverse amauka-
makai route between Queen K Highway and A1ii Drive. Tt is also a designated evacuation
corridor in the evem of a tsunami or other disaster that may impact makai residents between
Keauhou and Lunapule Street.
I am appalled to learn that you were willing to "rubber stamp" approval to allow the
developer to increase the originally proposed 98 to 120 lots, change to overhead, exposed
utilities, and most importantly to waive the construction of the initially required mauka-
makai road between Kuakini Highway and the new Alii Highway.
As a local businessman I am very "pro development" so long as it is well thought out,
planned, and implemented to benefit all concerned,
In that light, i tun requesting the County Council to only approve the SCD Kahakai
Subdivision if the developers agree to the original plans and requirements that they install a
mauka-makai connector through their subdi~rision, and put the utilities back underground,
where they belong.
Should the Council approve this development without enforcing the previously agreed to
plans and requirements, especially after hearing the disapproval from ~ locally elected
council members and directly from us, (the "bread winner" tax payers of this county) it
should be no wonder to you that many people in West Hawaii want a separate county
government so we can control our owm destin}' here.
