Proposed amendment to Bill No. 29, draft 3.
1 am an employee at the Hilo Municipal Golf Course but am submitting this testimony on behalf of
myself, an avid golfer that spends a lot of time at the Hilo Municipal Golf Course.
The club house is falling apart termites is probably holding up the building when golfers check in termite
droppings keep falling on the sign in sheet, the walls are infested when people come and look up inside
the starters office and all they see is holes that were made from the termites also in the proshop and
restaurant. The cart barns roof is almost gone it has holes in them and the carts have rust stains on
them from the falling pieces of metal coming from the rotten roof.
Basically, the clubhouse is unsafe and needs to be re -built.
It is for these reasons that I am in support of proposed amendment to Bill No. 29, Draft 3, regarding the
Hilo Municipal Golf Course.

I want to express my great concern regarding Councilwoman Willie's attempt to decrease our subsidy
and increase rates. There are too many golfers that are struggling and will not be able to play golf
anymore. They don't play tennis, swim, or play baseball. BUT THEY GOLF. Most of the people are on
fixed incomes and are over 50 years old. Golf is their exercise and without that, who knows what would
happen to them. As for the juniors, many juniors come from parents who already have to work multiple
jobs and the majority wouldn't be able to afford an increase in the rates. This would force the kids out
on the street which could lead to drugs and teenage pregnancies. We have a great program going on
now and people are happy. The negatives that will come out of cutting the golf course's budget will far
outweigh the positives in adding it to solid waste. I am in OPPOSITION to this communication.
