Resolution Requesting the Hawaii State Legislature to Designate July 31 as "LA
HO'Irm'I
EA", which Translates to Restoration Day

Aloha Honorable Members of Hawaii County Council,
Please accept this testimony in support of the resolution "Requesting the Hawaii State
Legislature to Designate July 31 as "La Ho'iho'i ea", which Translates to_ Restoration Day".
As indicated in the body of this resolution, the event which took place on July 31, 1843
during the time of King Kamehameha III, Kauikeouli, was a special day in the Kingdom of
Hawai'i's history. This day, among other important dates in our history, including La
Ku'oko'a, Hawai'i's Independence Day on November 28 and the celebration of Queen
Lili'uokalani's Birthday on September 2, mark events and celebrations of our history and
culture which were celebrated in the kingdom and should not be forgotten.
The 45 members of the Hawaiian Club of Hilo, the mother club of Moku of Keawe,
established in 1929, supports this request from our sister club, Hui Pu Laka, and urges the
passage of this resolution which recognizes and acknowledges this important event in our
country's history.
This celebration is remembered annually in Honolulu, at the site where the Hawaiian flag
was restored to its rightful place and thus renamed Thomas Square in honor of Admiral
Richard Darton Thomas. We believe this resolution will assist us in bringing the
recognition and celebration of this event to Hawaii Island as well as throughout the Pae
'Aina.
