I am unable to make the Monday meeting but wanted to voice my opinion on an important matter. My family does not want spray trucks spraying herbicides especially round up in our neighborhood or anywhere on Hawaii Island. We now know that Roundup is not safe, contains carcinogens, binds to our soil and can be held there for many years and can find its way into our livestock, vegetables and water. These chemicals have no place in paradise. Just imagine the harm these chemicals do when the wind blows them to non - targeted area. People that don't even have a choice in the matter (this includes the employees who have to spray), who are keeping their yards clean, who grow organic food are still being placed at risk for absorbing these chemicals. I understand that keeping growth back from the highway is a matter of safety. However, there are creative ideas that can maintain our roadways and still not poison the Aina. These include but are not limited to: planting native or low growing groundcover to outcompete weeds, asking people who live on the highway to please keep their front yards back away from the highway, using alternative safe sprays and other beneficial microorganisms as weed control. Please listen to the voices of the people... no more herbicidal spraying in Hawaii. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND CONSIDERATION, Jessica Wieloh 808-854-4240 PO box 551751 Kapaau, HI 96755 Comm: No. Ref. To: XiAW Ref. (late JUN 6-1 9n€a .
