No. 311 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo, Hawaii <br /> TIME: 2:07 p.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 311, reports as follows: <br /> Communication 311, transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated May 7, 2015, requests <br /> review and favorable recommendation of the nomination of Ms. Nyala L. Neill to the Hawaii <br /> County Pension Board. <br /> Ms. Neill is a lifelong resident of Hawai`i and is a retired registered nurse. Ms. Neill is also a <br /> member of the Hawai`i County RSVP Program, a member of HGEA, and secretary of Hilo's <br /> Red Hat Society—Na Papale Ula Wela 0 Hilo. <br /> Ms. Charmaine Shigemura, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kenoi, came forward and provided <br /> background information on Nominee Neill, expressed the Mayor's support, and requested <br /> Council's favorable action of this appointment. Ms. Neil is not affiliated with any political party. <br /> If confirmed, Ms. Neill will serve a term to end on December 31, 2019. <br /> Nominee Neill appeared before Your Committee and commented regarding her willingness to <br /> serve on this board as her way of giving back to the community. <br /> Finance Director Deanna Sako explained that the Pension Board manages the County pension <br /> program, and indicated that there are currently only 25 people left in this program. <br /> Several Council Members spoke in support of Ms. Neill's appointment. <br /> Committee Chair Eoff informed Ms. Fischer that she did not need to appear before the full <br /> Council for confirmation and thanked her for her willingness to serve. <br /> Pursuant to Section 6-6.4 of the Hawai`i County Charter, there shall be a pension board <br /> consisting of five members who shall be appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the council. <br /> FC Report No. 28 <br />
