Dear Chatrntan Arakalu:
With regards to the SCD Kahakai LLC zoning request to be allowed to build 120
new homes without the required mauka-makaz connector:
I live next to Lako St. Funds have just been approved to comtect Lako 5t. to Alii
Drive, which will result i.n a significant increase in noise and traffic past my hawse.
If this developer is allowed out of his obligation to build a connecting street, It
will benefit the purchasers of these units at the expense of mystlf and my
neighbors, by diverting even more traffic past my house. I demand equal
treatment under the law. If SCD is not required to build their connector as
originally required, the Lako Street connection must also be canceled. Your
obligation as a public servant is to provide for the nceds of the entire community,
and not to favor certain special interests at the expense of the rest of the citizens.
Such favoritism could lead to speculation concerning the motives of legislators
who allow developers to evade their responsibilities to the community at large,
especially if the legislator fails to support and vote for the common sense ethics
bill proposed by Council member Jacobsen. The recent police scandal has resulted
in a loss of confidence of Hawaii voters in the ethics of our public servants. I trust
that you will attempt to restore this confidence by voting in favor of the Jacobsen
ethics bill, and against the SCD zoning request.
Please circulate these comments to all council members. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Doug Pemne
