Members of the Council
The citizens of West Hawaii appreciate the opportunity to make their voices
heard on the future of our town. Bill # 50 has changed dramatically since the
last time the people were allowed to make their voices heard. We elected two
fine people to represent us in the council, but apparently they can only
persuade two others of the importance of people having a say in the future of
the place they have chosen to live. If the 5 members who have voted in the
past to let the developer, SCD Kahakai, disregard the wishes of the people
this will only drive a further wedge in the perceived disregard that Hilo has
for the wishes of West Hawaii. If (Council Members) have any reasons to go
ahead with this project without Mauka-Makai connections, I would be
interested to hear them.
I have not heard of one person who lives in West Hawaii, other than
people on their payroll, who is in favor of the project, without a
Mauka-Makai connection. Please listen to the citizens who will be impacted
by your decisions for many years in the future. Let's think about this town in
20 years and just not about return on investment.
